US DoD expands nanotech grants
The U.S. Department of Defense will increase research spending on nanotechnology to $15 million per year after awarding 16 first-round research grants in fiscal 2001. The initial projects include Princeton University research on "nanoscale electronics and architectures" and a Carnegie Mellon University study of "nanoporous semiconductors." Work at the University of New York at Buffalo will concentrate on "polymeric nanophotonics and nanoelectronics" and several other Air Force research programs will center on quantum computing devices.
