Upgrade Program Moves Sun Ultra Users To Sun Blade
Buying a new server is similar to buying a new car. The minute you take delivery and make your first payment, a new model comes out with more advanced features and options. In the case of a car, at least you have the option of trading the beast in and taking advantage of its inherent resale value. In the case of a server, you pretty much have to wait until the powers that be create a budget that lets you upgrade. Sun appears to be making an attempt to ease the pain of moving from boxy server boxes to sleek little blades by giving the old machines a little trade-in value. The company's new Sun Ultra Upgrade Program offers discounts to Sun Ultra workstation owners who upgrade to Sun's line of Sun Blade workstations. Sun also announced a companion campaign dubbed "Find the Fives," a promotion that sets out to locate five Sun Ultra 5 workstations in the first group of workstations sold. Customers with the appropriate serial numbers will be rewarded with a free, fully-loaded Sun Blade 100 workstation package (think of a game show host saying "A Brand New Car!"). The Sun Ultra Upgrade Program provides extra discounts to those who trade in their older Sun Ultra 5, 10, 60 or 80 workstations for one of Sun's new Sun Blade 100 and Sun Blade 1000 workstations. Customers whose Sun Ultra 5 workstations have one of the five specified serial numbers can trade in their workstation for a Sun Blade 100 system that includes 40 GB of storage, 2 GB of memory, the Sun Expert3D-Lite Graphics board, and an 18" flat panel monitor. The five serial numbers are (a drum roll please) FW81008413, FW80704047, FW81212912, TW80701882, and TW80802492.
