Update: Transcend debuts 32 GB solid state drive
Taipei (Taiwan) - Memory manufacturer Transcend announced its new 32 GB solid state disk (SSD). The 2.5" drive is designed to fit into most laptop drive slots and uses an IDE interface capable of transfers at Ultra DMA Mode 4 speeds.
The new drive is just 7.4 mm thick and Transcend claims the drive is shock resistant and uses less power, although no specifics were given. Transcend told TG Daily that the drive will sell for around $400.
Other companies like SanDisk have also been getting into the solid-state disk market. SanDisk plans on selling a 32 GB SSD in the coming months for around $600.
Transcend also sells SSDs in 8 and 16 GB capacities.
