Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo Right Around The Corner?

Next to Doom III, perhaps the next game that people have been eagerly awaiting is Epic's multiplayer shooter Unreal Tournament 2003. Rumors continue to suggest that at least the Demo is getting a lot closer to release. Latest reports confirmed by Epic's own Cliff Bleszinski indicate that the demo will in fact include four maps.

Cliff did shed a light on what the demo will contain. The demo will have four maps. Antalus, a deathmatch map, has an outdoor setting covered with grass and rolling hills. Another deathmatch map, Asbestos, is set in a factory location. Citadel is a capture the flag map that's similar to the UT map Facing Worlds, but with multiple paths. Anubis will represent the new bombing run game mode.

"One thing that I'm excited about with the new UT - all the game types will be very fun and viable online," Bleszinski said. "Assault and the original domination, as much as I love them, had some issues that prevented them from reaching their full potential online. Domination 2.0 and bombing run are right up there with CTF and other game types."

We caught up with Epic Vice President, Mark Rein at this year's Quakecon and he indicated that Unreal Tournament 2003 is in fact on track and still scheduled for release this fall. When pushed for more specifics surrounding the time frame and release schedule he said at this time he could not be more specific as far as an exact release date. Shipping the demo will be an excellent step in the right direction, but we continue to wonder when this is going to happen.
