Universal and Sony move without Napster
Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment have launched a joint project named "Duet" to deliver online music. Based in New York, Duet will be jointly owned but independent of either parent organization. Together, the companies already sell 40 percent of the world's records and are aiming to make it half online. Reportedly, the service will provide subscription-based on-demand streaming initially and later will include downloadable files encrypted with their copyright management system.
