I haven't heard much lately about Intel going after VIA for putting forth its /technews/technews-20010816.html#0219 P4X266 P4 chipsets without a license. That may be why we're beginning to see more motherboard makers going ahead with plans to release VIA-based boards. The lion hasn't resumed roaring yet, so the mice figure it's safe to scurry about unnoticed. You may think it's odd to refer to big tech companies like Tyan as mice, but since they make motherboards based on Intel chips, Intel is pretty much in the driver's seat if they decide to shun VIA's chipset customers. Tyan is going forth with the release of its P4X266 P4 motherboards with the announcement that it has started shipping the Trinity 510, a motherboard that supports up to four DDR DIMMs for up to 3GB of PC2100 or 4GB of PC1600 DDR memory. Along with DDR support, the ATX form-factor Trinity 510 also sports a dual-channel ATA-100 drive controller, five PCI expansion slots, and a 2x/4x AGP slot, a 400MHz system bus, and 266MHz memory bus. Integrated audio and 10/100 LAN controllers are optional. The Trinity 510 is shipping now in limited quantities, with volume production expected before the end of this month.
