Heading Upmarket: The Wacom Graphire4 Classic

The Wacom Graphire4 Classic is a more expensive and lavish offering coming in at around £70, depending on where you shop. This is still in the realm of entry-level for graphic tablets, though one can spot some marked improvements on the Genius tablet which justify the heftier price of the Graphire4.
Taking it out of the box and the sleek design and feel of the G4 is immediately more "expensive" looking than the, by comparison, shoddy and cheap-plastic looking Genius. The tablet area itself is covered by a plastic photo-frame which prevents dirt from building up and damage being done to the surface area itself. This flat surface also allows for things like pieces of paper to be placed evenly on the tablet for tracing.
The pen itself feels better in the hand than that of the Genius MousePen, though the surface of the tablet itself remains the same static design. Visualisation and getting used to working on one surface and looking at another is still required.
The pad is responsive and doesn't lag much, within the limitations of its USB connection. Hover the pen a few centimetres off the surface and you can move the pointer around without it losing its tracking as we noted the Genius MousePen sometimes did.
The G4 doesn't come with an added mouse, which doesn't count against it in our book. This would only have added to the price and put one more useless piece of tech on our desk to take care of.
