TV set-top game console from Microsoft?

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Microsoft is developing a TV set-top game-playing console under the code name X-Box, Next Generation gaming magazine reports.

The magazine says the device will feature a 500-MHz chip from Intel or an AMD Athlon chip, Nvidia's NV-10 graphics technology, and a modified version of Microsoft's stripped-down Windows CE operating system. The device reportedly will be designed primarily for games but may have other functions as well.

Microsoft declined to comment on the machine, planned for release in fall 2000 and priced at less than $300, according to Next Generation.
