Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) internally project excess capacity in their 0.35- to 0.18-micron CMOS production in the third quarter and expect their blank wafer inventories will not be fully digested until after the end of the third quarter, according to sources.
