Trident Microsystems just let us know about its new DPTV-3D chip, which integrates a 3D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. Trident's 3-D digital video decoder reads consecutive horizontal scanning lines within each video frame making corrections as it goes. Based on Trident's Unified Memory Architecture (UMA), DPTV-3D digital comb video decoder doesn't require extra frame buffers for performing 3D comb filtering. The film-mode recovery of DPTV-3D is said to eliminate the artifacts found in a typical interlaced signal to progressive conversion process. The motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing feature of the chip is also supposed to refine the video display quality. There are 14 Dynamic picture enhancements available for fine-tuning video display. The DPTV chip enables a SDTV signal to display in Picture-In-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. It supports non-linear scaling in panorama mode, a built-in VBI circuit for closed captioning and a V-chip for parental control that is EIA 608 compliant. DPTV-3D is currently available to TV OEMs for sampling. Trident's DPTV family comes in three types: DPTV-3D, DPTV-MV, and DPTV-MVS. DPTV-3D is priced at $29, DPTV-MV at $25, and DPTV-MVS at $20 in 10,000 unit quantities.
