Trend to use desktop CPUs in notebooks on the rise

The world's largest PC vendors are taking to desktop processors in their notebooks in an attempt to attract buyers with superior computing power at lower prices. Quanta Computer currently ships the Pavilion ze5170 to Hewlett-Packard (HP) and will make new models for IBM slated for launch in the first quarter of 2003. Compal Electronics makes desktop CPU-based models for Toshiba and Acer, while Wistron designs and manufactures the SmartStep 200N and 250N for Dell Computer and the Amilo D series for Fujitsu Siemens. Arima Computer produces HP's Presario 1500 and Evo N1000v.
