Toshiba Corp. has announced a 2.1" reflective low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD with an embedded SRAM memory cell integrated in each dot. The 144 x 174-pixel LCD is designed to provide multimedia displays for cell phones, cutting power use by half on still images. Low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) LCDs allow the fabrication of driver circuitry with pixel transistors on glass substrates and Toshiba is adding a static random-access memory (SRAM) cell to each LCD dot, consisting of seven transistors that remember on or off data for each red, green and blue dot.
