Toshiba's 30 GB Disc
Toshiba has an optical disc technology that can deliver 30 GB of storage on a 12 cm disc. The disc technology uses blue-violet laser light (wavelength of 405 nanometers), a specification which has been adopted by Japanese and European manufacturers under the banner of Blue-ray Disc. With the DVD Forum now looking at next generation technologies Toshiba and other vendors are working hard at throwing their technologies into the hat for future consideration. The data file format for Toshiba's disc is UDF, the same as DVD, and transmission speed is 35 Mbps.
