Toshiba unveils HD-DVD recorder with 1 TB hard drive space

Toshiba announced teh RDD-A1 HD-DVD record with a one Terabyte worth of hard drive space. Up to 130 hours of high-definition video can be stored and up to 230 minutes of that content can be burned to a single HD DVD disc. Unfortunately, the recorder will only be sold in Japan.

The RD-A1 can display and record to several recordable DVD formats including DVD-RAM, -RW and -R discs. Single-layer HD DVD-R discs can hold up to 115 minutes of high definition video, while the dual-layer ones can hold 230 minutes. The recorder also supports 1080p (1920x1080 pixels progressive) output via HDMI 1.3.

As shown on the picture the back panel of the RD-A1 carries almost every port imaginable. In addition to the traditional video and audio connections, the RD-A1 has two Firewire ports (IEEE1394) and one LAN port. The recorder supports Dolby HD and DTS-HD audio.
The Toshiba RD-A1 will start selling in Japan on 14 July for around $3500.
