Torvalds, Transmeta to release open-source Mobile Linux

Transmeta Corp.'s Mobile Linux, developed under the direction of Linux founder and arbiter Linus Torvalds, will soon be released to the open-source community. The software was written for devices without hard disks, such as mobile Internet appliances, and optimized for the Crusoe processor.

Transmeta plans to launch a 1GHz Crusoe processor TM 5800, this year, according to Transmeta CEO Dave Ditzel.
