Moving Day for Tom's Networking Guide :
Source: Tom's Hardware – Keywords: tng, moving, day
We've been busy behind the scenes here at TNG, moving over to the same content management system used by the other TG Publishing sites. This move will let us share content more readily with our sibling sites (and vice versa), but it will also let us bring you new features during the coming months. But with the move brings some feature and format changes, so let's take a short tour.
The general organization of the site remains the same, with topic areas for Wireless, VoIP, LANS / Routers, NAS, Multimedia, and Everything Else up above on the menu bar. But now when you enter each area, you'll notice a more comprehensive list of recent articles to choose from. And at the bottom of each Article list, there's a link to our Archives, which you can use to chronologically search for articles. Of course, our Search is always available for more focused article queries.
Our news archives have been moved over to TG Daily, which handles the news for all the TG Publishing world. You can access the latest news via the links in the TG Daily section on our Front Page, or add its RSS feed to your favorite reader. RSS feeds are also available for Networking as well as the other TG Publishing sites, so you can know right away when we've got new stuff posted.
The Front Page has a bit of a new look, with a new Articles box providing quick and easy access to the four most recent articles in each Topic area. The "New in the Product Guides" box is gone, because we've also said goodbye to our Product Guides. They've been replaced by the product comparison and search features in TG Stores, which is better able to keep up with the constant barrage of new products. Take a look around TG Stores and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the product spec info you'll find there, as well as user-written reviews. We've also bid adieu to our Links and Tools section, at least for now (but there's always the chance of a comeback!).
Speaking of user-written reviews, be on the lookout for the Discuss links in our articles and reviews. They'll take you over to a special section of our Forumz, where you can jump right in and ask questions, share your own experience, or whatever.
The other big change is in our FAQ, which are in the process of being moved to special sections over in the Forumz. We've already moved (and updated) the General, Setup and Configuration, and Security sections of our Wireless FAQ, along with the General Ethernet LAN FAQ. The other FAQ sections will follow shortly until we have everything moved over. The Forumz is also where we'll be looking for new FAQ topics among the daily flow of questions (and hopefully, answers!).
With any move comes the risk of breakage and forgotten items, so if you see something funky, or just have a comment on the changes don't hesitate to drop us a line. You can email us directly at comments@tomsnetworking.com, or use the Feedback form (choose Tim Higgins for the recipient, please!). Or if you're already registered over at the Forumz, just enter a post in the Tell Us section.
Enjoy!
