TI Ships 1.5 Million Bluetooth Chips
How many units of a certain product a certain company ships isn't usually all that interesting unless it's something a lot of folks are interested in (like game consoles). Wireless networking, however is a pretty interesting topic and, since we told you last week about Philips shipping six million 802.11b chipsets , it seems only reasonable to let you know how Bluetooth is faring in the area of silicon sales. Texas Instruments just let us know that it has shipped over 1.5 million semiconductor chips to clients engaged in the emerging Bluetooth market. According to market analysts IMS, an estimated total of 10 million units of silicon will be shipped to the worldwide Bluetooth market in 2001. In a separate announcement, TI announced its new BSN6050 baseband product (Baseband + TRF6001 RF), which provides full data rate Bluetooth links at a volume price as low as U.S. $5.
