TI and OmniVision Pull Together 1394 CMOS Camera Design

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Hmm, are you a USB 2.0 fan or are you hoping that FireWire is the wave of the future? Personally, I think that forthcoming motherboards should offer support for both. Please give us all the options and don't force us to try to predict the future. We just want all of our gadgets to work for a while after we buy them without worrying whether they'll plug into our computers a year from now. OmniVision Technologies and Texas Instruments just let us know that they're in the FireWire camp and have produced a joint effort that they think will to make it easier for OEMs to develop 1394 CMOS cameras. The reference design will combine Texas Instrument's TSB15LV01PFC Camera Link chip plus Phy (TSB41ABx) with OmniVision's OV76xx CMOS image sensor and will also include the drivers necessary to enable a complete camera solution. Targeted availability for the reference designs is Q4 of this year. Under the arrangement, both companies will offer the reference design and co-market and support OEMs that integrate it into their product offerings. In OEM quantities, the complete 1394 with camera chipset is priced below $20.
