TI, Atheros, not joining Broadcom in WAPI opposition
According to today’s DigiTimes, not all WLAN chip manufacturers are lining up behind Broadcom to oppose support of China’s WAPI regulations.
The article reports that officials from Texas Instruments Asia, and Atheros say their companies are working on devices to support the controversial Chinese wireless security standard. TI appears to be more aggressive in its efforts and was said to be working with D-Link in its development process.
Linksys said it was "still evaluating the situation, but would consider partnering with its Taiwanese suppliers and Chinese makers to support WAPI".
The article did not report Broadcom’s reaction to these developments. Broadcom went on record about two weeks ago, saying it would not risk losing its intellectual property to the Chinese [related story].
