Three-way Card Reader From Y-E Data

by - source: Tom's Hardware

The idea that your high-end camera or other peripheral device needs to be cabled to your computer to transfer files seems just a tad behind the times. Why are you investing in things like flash cards if they can't be used to port your data over to your computer? The current challenge seems to be the plethora of different types of removable media, but a few companies are working on letting you slap in different types of media as though they were floppy disks. Y-E Data is one of those companies and just announced the release of its new HEXA Media Drive, which should hit the shelves some time in December 2001. The HEXA Media Drive is a card reader/writer that supports various flash memory card types used in digital cameras, including Compact Flash, Smart Media and Micro Drive, Multimedia (MMC) cards, and Memory Stick. The HEXA Media Drive accomplishes its task by using a custom IC called Galileo, which is a USB 1.1 chip that supports read/write to four memory cards simultaneously. The Device connects via one USB cable and is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh computers. If you're a Mac user, compatibility is based on the particular candy color of your machine (just kidding - really).
