3ware

Barbara Murphy introduces us to a 12-port serial ATA RAID system using 3ware's Escalade cards for drive arrays. Even writers of rap songs know that the SUV of the same moniker got its name due to the numerous words with which it rhymes. Advertising opportunities abound.

"The 2, 4, 8 and 12-port Escalade 7506 controllers have a PCI 66MHz custom ASIC that combines an integrated RISC processor, PCI bridge and XOR RAID engine," says Kathleen Paulus, a spokesperson for 3ware."

Plus, it rhymes with server blade, network RAID, getting paid and many other things you are left to your own devices to think of.

Toshiba Storage Device Division

Toshiba's Bana Zarrabian shows storage drives ranging from 1.8 inches to full sized DVD writers.

Toshiba makes everything from TVs to toasters (well, I'm not really sure about the toasters, but it's a safe bet) and one of the places the 128-year-old company has made a big splash is in their Storage Device Division, which seems to be able to produce increasingly smaller drives every year. "We have a 1.8" drive that comes in a PCMCIA version and now goes up to 5 GB," says Toshiba's Bana Zarrabian. "On the embedded version, we have a 20 GB and a 30 GB. We hope to come out with an 80 GB drive in the next quarter. These can be used in the mobile sector, like the PDA market, auto MP3 players and other devices."
