FIC

Eugene Chang and Steve Horvath show off the latest incarnations of FIC motherboards.
FIC is often thought of as primarily a motherboard maker, but they've also in the invested in the white box market - especially in the area of laptops, where we could all benefit from a little customization. "We've got Centrino white box laptop platforms for the retail channel," says FIC's Steve Horvath. "We're also showing off our new line of ATI-based graphics cards, our motherboards - which have been our staple since 1980 - and our small-form factor platform solutions." Horvath also thinks that just about everything from cell phones to PDAs will be Centrino-based in the coming years.
Western Digital

Darrin Bulik looks pretty happy about Western Digital's 10,000 RPM drive offerings.
"At the conference, we're primarily focusing on our new product that's coming out, a 74 GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA hard drive," says Western Digital's Darrin Bulik. As far as industry trends for the year 2004, Bulik sees the move from parallel ATA to serial ATA coming fast. "It's a 50 MB versus 100 MB per second speed difference," he says, which for speed freaks is a no-brainer. Western Digital won two THG Readers Choice Awards later in the day for Best Innovation in Storage (WD360 Raptor)and Best Storage Product Manufacturer.

Stacy Hand enjoys WD's landslide in the storage categories of the Readers' Choice Awards.
