Since ICH8 offers six instead of four SATA ports and we used four hard drives for this project, two unused ports show up in the Matrix Storage Console.

The rest of the RAID creation process is the same as that with ICH7.

Add hard drives to your RAID configuration...

... and define how much of the total capacity you want to use for your RAID.

Notification, Handling And Rebuild Of A Degraded RAID 5

Like with ICH7, the Matrix Storage Manager will notify you in case a drive dies or gets removed accidentally.

As soon as you attach a replacement drive for the faulty or removed hard drive, the rebuild process is automatically initiated.
