The Right Software

Ad

Without software, the DJ Console is not much use, as many of the controls stay completely inert. It only comes to life when you run compatible software. The programs that are implemented are Atomix Virtual DJ, Gmixon NewDJ, OTS DJ, OTS CD Scratch and Arturia Storm 2.0 DJ Edition. Implementation of InVibes and MixVibes is in progress. If, as we expect, DJ Console is a success, the main programs on the market will soon become compatible.

The DJ Console provides two applications designed for DJs who mix from files (MP3 and others). Virtual DJ has two interface levels, one simple, one with the basic functions and another one which is more advanced, and therefore more difficult to get used to.

However, don't forget that you must change at the same time from an 800x600 screen to a 1024x768 one. This could be important, especially if you are using a laptop. Even in the simplified version, you need to browse the program if you want to mix properly and in comfort: you have to adapt the interface to your tastes and habits by configuring the functions and responses of the DJ Console commands. The default configuration may not be exactly what you want! Apart from that, a certain number of effects are available and it would be a pity to miss out on them. Don't forget that the basis is the software, and the DJ Console is no more than a hardware interface.

The basic Virtual DJ screen with the main commands: bottom: the files used. Top: a graph of the sound broadcast by the two "decks," to see how the tempo is synchronized.

In the advanced version, Virtual DJ has a lot more commands and looks different.

One click to open the effects panel with settings that the DJ Console does not have. Not to be missed...
