Scarface: The World Is Yours

Title: Scarface: The World is Yours

Platforms: Xbox, PS2, PC
Publisher: Vivendi Universal
Developers: Radical
Description: Scarface: The World is Yours is the first game based on the 1983 classic film "Scarface" starring Al Pacino. The game follows the exploits of Tony Montana as he tries to re-establish his control over the Miami criminal underworld after surviving the end of the film.

You read that right. This is a world where Tony escapes the gun battle at his compound with Sosa's men, but is left with nothing. Players must rebuild Tony's drug empire, one step at a time, in Grand Theft Auto fashion.

This kind of open-world game system is certainly familiar to anyone who has spent any time with GTA. What makes Scarface not just another clone, however, is the compelling license, and the depth and detail of the game. All the missions promise to tie together to further Tony's goals - rather than just being random things to do to get money - and the mission variety is extensive. Scarface also features the "Balls Meter", where once filled up through ballsy acts, Tony enters Rage mode and is able to deal damage with invulnerability and unlimited ammo.

The game offers players the option to use a lock-on or a free-look system for targeting, and also the option to target specific parts of the enemy's body (although the speed of the shootouts makes this somewhat cumbersome).

Pros:

It's a game based on Scarface! GTA-style gameplay with deeper interaction and stronger combat. Developers promise the game will take quite some time to finish (more akin to an RPG than an action game). New story; does not retread over the events of the movie.

Cons:

No Al Pacino. Outdated-looking graphics. Once you get past the license, you may be left with a feeling of "been there done that" after playing GTA over the years.
