The End Is Near: A THG Discussion Forum
Introduction
I talked to a friend of mine in the chip business. He was talking about raising capital for his company. A couple of years ago we'd be blasé about it because, it was taken for granted that you could raise dollops of cash and break into the meteoric world of the PC industry.
Well, that ain't the case anymore. I mean, would you invest in an upstart graphics chip company? Or, any other company that would lay claim to taking over the PC universe? The upside just doesn't seem to be there anymore.
With the Microprocessor Forum kicking off this week, a place where you can usually find some exciting technology buzz, I got to thinking about what 2003 holds for the processor, inspired in part by the following two articles.
Obviously, things look shaky for now. Not to mention how even the typically blinkered Craig Barrett has started to admit that things may not look any better in 2003 than they did in 2002. If you have any doubts, check out what has happened in past coverage.
Of course, you could argue that this is also a time of opportunity. After all, Microsoft was started during a recession.
So, why don't you give your ideas about what is going to set the tech world on fire in the coming years. What will keep you enthusiastic about the PC? We'll keep an eye on it, and discuss some of the comments in the next couple of days.
