The Departed becomes first dual HD format movie to sell 100,000 copies
Burbank (CA) - Warner Home Video announced today that its Best Picture Oscar winner, The Departed, has sold more than 100,000 copies on Blu-ray and HD DVD.
Having the extra momentum from being released on both formats, The Departed is the first movie released on both Blu-ray and HD DVD to sell over 100,000 copies on high definition formats, says Warner.
"By releasing titles on HD DVD and Blu-ray, Warner Home Video not only increases our potential audience reach, but also offers consumers assurance that regardless of the format they choose they can enjoy our movies," said WHV president Ron Sanders.
Warner is one of the biggest movie studios to have no connection to a single HD format, and has been releasing titles concurrently on HD DVD and Blu-ray for nearly a year.
With its acceptance of both formats, Warner says it has around 30% of the hi-def DVD market share.
