Whether you want to call that little gadget you keep your addresses and appointments in a PDA or a Pocket PC is up to you but it seems like a PC should have a keyboard like those little devices that look like miniature laptops. Casio has decided not to add any confusion to your holiday shopping list by calling its its new CASSIOPEIA E-200 a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), unlike some of the other Pocket PCs we've seen today. The E-200 will have a suggested retail price of $599 (which actually does just about put it in the price range of a PC) and will be available in early November. The CASSIOPEIA E-200 uses Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC 2002 software, which is enabled for network connectivity through IEEE 802.11b, Bluetooth, CDPD (cellular digital packet data), CDMA (code division multiple access) and GSM (global system for mobile communications). The CASSIOPEIA E-200 is powered by Intel's StrongARM SA-1110 processor and uses Intel StrataFlash memory. It's fitted with slots for both CF (Type II) and MMC/SD cards, and an optional PC card unit to provide wireless wide area network connectivity (through CDPD, GSM and CDMA), local area network connectivity (through IEEE 802.11b) and personal area network connectivity (through Bluetooth). Casio says that USB connectivity is a key feature on the E-200, and is available through the provided cradle or an optional PC card unit/host converter. Other features include a 3.5 inch 240 x 320 reflective TFT color LCD display (65,536 colors), 32MB Flash ROM, 64MB D-RAM, microphone, speaker, IrDA ver. 1.2 (SIR), DC jack, stereo headphone jack, 32-pin serial connector (USB client/USB Host/RS232C), Li-ion rechargeable replaceable battery (over 10h), AC adaptor, USB cradle with USB host, and a soft case. It measures 130mm x 82mm x 17.5 mm and weighs 190g.
