The 480 PC Super PC
The Technical University of Denmark, DTU, located just north of Copenhagen, is about to install a new super computer, which will be one of the three strongest in Europe. It is composed of 480 Compaq EVO D510, each eqipped with a 2,26 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1 gigabyte PC2100 DDR RAM, a 20 gigabyte harddisk and 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet. Each computer is connected via 22 HP Procurve 2324 switches each with 24 ports. Each of those is then connected with a 1 Gbit/s uplink to a HP Procurve 4108 Gbit switch with 30 1 Gbit/s ports. The 480 computers consumes about 50 KW. The room coolingsystem consumes 70 KW at full power. At full load this corresponds to 2,000 60 watt lightbulbs.
