Texas Instruments Creates Bargain Chip
Texas Instruments has developed a new DSL application single chip router known as the AR7 that will cost just $35. The AR7chip combines an ADSL analog front end with baseband processing, Ethernet ports, microprocessor, memory controller and circuitry for efficient power management circuitry. The AR7 also outputs its internal bus on a serial link, allowing wireless LAN or Bluetooth to connect directly to it. Priced according to volume sales, the AR7 cost is approximately $25, with another $8 or $9 for several small devices to complete the package. All the required baseband firmware and basic software to set up a DSL router is supplied by Texas Instruments.
