Terayon Communication Systems says that its new Terayon TJ615 cable modem was just given DOCSIS 1.0 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) certification by CableLabs. The TJ615 will be available in Q4 this year and is also DOCSIS 1.1 based, while giving you Terayon's OpenPHY implementation, which includes S-CDMA (synchronous code division multiple access) and A-TDMA (advanced time division multiple access) physical layer technologies. S-CDMA and A-TDMA are included in the DOCSIS 2.0 specification to increase upstream performance and reliability, and hopefully will allow service providers to offer a range of new services. Terayon says the TJ615 is an integral part of its DOCSIS cable data system. In addition to the modem, the company also offers the Terayon BE 2000 and Terayon BE 2800 DOCSIS 1.0 CMTSs (cable modem termination systems), which are located in cable operators' headends. Terayon is also developing new OpenPHY headend solutions that are interoperable with existing DOCSIS qualified CMTSs and DOCSIS certified cable modems. In other words, cable operators can deploy Terayon's OpenPHY solutions without having to replace existing DOCSIS 1.0/1.1 equipment.
