TeleVital Monitors Anesthesia Via the Internet
Well, most of us would rather have an anesthesiologist in the room with us if we were having surgery, but apparently there are some situations where that scenario isn't possible. Where there's an app there's a developer and in this case it's a company called TeleVital, who just let us know that its VitalWeb browser-based vital sign software enabled the first reported anesthesiological monitoring of a surgical procedure over the Internet. Using TeleVital's VitalWeb, which monitors and records physiological data over the Internet, a consulting anesthesiologist at the Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia Hospital monitored the breathing and heart rhythms of a young woman undergoing a gall bladder operation 3,000 miles away in Sucua, Ecuador. The operation was a success, and VitalWeb even managed to detect an anomaly in the patient's heart rhythm. The surgeon corrected the potentially life threatening condition in the fully-equipped mobile operating room - a converted delivery truck. Sounds like an application that requires a really reliable ISP.
