TDK's Bluetooth USB Adaptor
Thankfully, technologies like Bluetooth and 802.11 are coming into play to make these devices truly portable, albeit within a limited range. TDK Systems Europe is jumping on the Bluetooth bandwagon with a handful of new devices, the most recent of which is a Bluetooth USB adapter that gives laptop users cable-free access to networks. TDK thinks the unit is also suitable for desktop PCs to help you set up a network in your home or small office without gads of cables. The USB Adaptor (TDK's spelling, must be European like "colour") is part of the company's Go Blue product line. It plugs into your USB port and clips onto the PC to let you exchange data with other Bluetooth-enabled gadgets. Other products in the Go Blue line include Blue5 for Palm V series PDAs, and a soon-to-be-released PC card, all of which are intended to help you retrofit your current devices for Bluetooth support. The "Adaptor" works with Windows 98, 2000, ME and SE, complies with the Bluetooth 1.1 standard, and is capable of data transmission speeds of up to 721kbps. Currently available in Europe, the Go Blue USB Adaptor has a suggested retail price of £99 in the UK.
