Mobile phone operators in Afghanistan switch off network coverage after 5pm
Mobile phone operators in Afghanistan have begun to switch off their networks during the night following threats from the Taliban.
The Taliban recently expressed beliefs that mobile masts were being used to track them and last month issued a warning insisting that operators turn off networks between the hours of 5pm and 3am local time.
The BBC quotes Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujaheed as saying : "If those companies do not stop their signal within three days, the Taliban will target their towers and their offices."
Reports from the Beeb now claim that operators have in fact begun to switch off networks at night following ten attacks on masts.
