Taiwan quake threatens DRAM shakeup
The powerful earthquake that struck Taiwan before dawn on Tuesday - measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale and killing more than 1,000 people - may have also put a major crimp in the world's short-term DRAM supply.
Taiwan firms account for about 12 percent total DRAM production. Analysts fear a shortage is brewing that may send DRAM prices spiraling.
Intel officials also warned of the quake's possible aftershocks reverberating in the supply of other personal computer components, such as motherboards.
