Taiwan chipset manufacturers plan for US production shortage
With Taiwan chipset makers initially focusing their integrated PCIe chipset development on the AMD K8 platform, they may not be able to take advantage of Intel’s plans to phase out its 915PL/GL series chipsets, sources at motherboard makers commented to DigiTimes .
Intel will reportedly phase out its 915PL/GL chipsets in the fourth quarter of this year.
Equivalent chipsets to the Intel 915PL/GL lineup from Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and VIA Technologies, including the SiS662 and VIA P4M890, have not yet entered volume production, the makers indicated.
