Synthetic Benchmarks
As usual, let’s start with everyone’s favorite synthetic benchmark, 3dMark06:


The power of SLI is well demonstrated as the new SBM machine decimates the previous system with a single 8800 GTX card. Higher resolutions and settings hardly seem to phase it, no surprise here.




As expected, the previous system’s higher overclock gives it a slight edge in the benchmarks, but nothing a person would notice in real-world use. It’s still a little puzzling that the hard drive benchmark favors a single Raptor over a RAID 0 system.
Now off to SiSoft’s Sandra XII benchmark suite:



More of the same results here, with the 180 MHz clockspeed advantage of the older (but more expensive) build taking the day by a slim margin.
We’ll move on to real-world applications now that the synthetic stuff has been covered…
