The Seagate 7200.10 of our current build slightly outpaces the Caviar drive of our former build, and unlike the other systems overclocking has little effect. Whilst the other systems relied on increased CPU speed to boost RAID controller performance, the single drive of our $1000 PC doesn’t use the motherboard’s RAID function.

Sandra’s math test proves the performance advantage of a quad-core processor in the former build, while showing great gains for overclocking both systems.

Multimedia extensions are a different matter, as some tests favor Intel’s architecture while others take advantage of AMD’s extra cores.

The big memory performance gains seen in PC Mark are also found in Sandra’s Memory Bandwidth benchmark.
