Symmetricom, Agere extend ADSL

Symmetricom Inc. says a third-party tester has confirmed that its GoLong asymmetric digital subscriber line extenders more than double the range of ADSL connections. The standard 14,000-foot limit is reportedly increased to 30,000 feet from a central office, potentially increasing the percentage of phone customers capable of ADSL connects from 60 to 95 percent. The cost per user will run between $500 and $700.


Also, Agere Systems (formerly Lucent Microelectronics) has ported its ADSL modems the Linux OS.
