Sweet Dreamcast sales for Sega
Sega of America says sales of its Dreamcast game consoles remain strong, totaling up to 1.55 million of the devices sold in the United States in 1999.
Despite the threat that Nintendo will leapfrog the 128-bit chip in the Dreamcast system later this year, the Sega model's built-in modem could help sales in countries such as Japan, where the Dreamcast console could be become a low-cost means of getting online.
In the United States, Sega won't be selling the system as anything but a game machine, even though it has the capability to download Internet content and display it on a television.
