Supermicro Offers HPC with Windows Compute Cluster
The more the merrier is often the mantra of those building server installations. But if you put multiple processors in one rack, you can fit more processing power into a smaller space. Supermicro Computer Inc. just announced the availability of high performance computing (HPC) clusters with Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003. Supermicro and Microsoft have joined forces to offer 1U Twin SuperServer Clusters, which combine with Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 to provide the HPC market with high-density, clusters that save energy and reduce operating costs. The 1U Twin SuperServer Clusters combine two dual-processor nodes into a 1U form factor to supply space-constrained datacenters with double the computing density of existing 1U installations. With two nodes sharing a single, high-efficiency (90%+) power supply, 6015T Series servers deliver significant energy cost savings. Supermicro 1U Twin servers require half as many server racks, chassis, power supplies, power cables and power strips, which further reduces costs. Additional cost savings are associated with less IT space. Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 is an integrated, standards-based compute-clustering platform built on top of Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions. With Windows Compute Cluster Server, customers can choose from a variety of horizontal and industry-specific applications, or they can write parallel applications from within the Visual Studio IDE.
