Sun Launches New Servers and Data Storage Devices
Sun Microsystems has announced the launch of its entry-level servers, the Sun Fire Model V210 and Model V240. The V210 is priced at $2,995 US, which Sun says is ideal for clustering with a group of servers (computing farms), while the V240, priced at $3,495 US is designed for use in server racks or with other servers at corporate data centers.
The StorEdge 6120 Array by Sun, a data storage system with a starting price of $24,300 US, is targeted at the mid-range storage market (which also happens to be Hewlett-Packard's market) that is modularly designed and can "grow" into a complete storage system. The StorEdge 6320 system starts at $67,600 US and is a complete storage system with management from a single console.
Sun also has launched its new N1 Data Platform, a combination of switches that link storage pools together, as well as software that enables customers to allocate their storage resources as needed, as a result of its purchase of Pirus Networks, a switch manufacturer that links data pools to various manufacturers' storage products.
