Study says file-sharing inevitable

by - source: Tom's Hardware

The respected technology analysis group, Forrester Research, says that file-sharing, via Napster, Gnutella, Scour and others, cannot be stopped. Forrester is urging that publishers rethink their business strategies to accept this new reality. According to the study, Content Out of Control, we are facing "a historic transfer of revenues" that will cost music publishers $3.1 billion and book publishers $1.5 billion by 2005, while increasing payments to authors and musicians by at least a $billion each.

In a related story, the Recording Industry Association of America has released statistics about its expanding anti-piracy efforts for the first half of this year.
