'Strong year' predicted for chip equipment makers
North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.58 billion in orders in May and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.11 according to figures released by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), a San Jose-based trade group. A book-to-bill of 1.11 means that $111 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
