Strix Bluetooth Wireless System Follows you Around
Just as your cell phone loses its signal when you're out of range, your Bluetooth device can get dropped if you move into an area of the building with weak or no coverage. Strix Systems thinks its Bluetooth-based system can end that irritating occurrence by giving you continuous, secure connections between corporate servers and handheld devices in the workplace. The key ingredient in keeping your connection working is the system's "hand-off" capability. Strix's system includes a series of Bluetooth-based access points placed at calculated intervals throughout the workplace, which stream information back and forth between the network and company-authorized handheld computers and other wireless devices. The access points link via standard Ethernet connection to a network controller. Strix says the security features in Bluetooth virtually eliminate the risk of unauthorized access to network data. The company plans to conduct customer trials over the next six months and figures its system will hit the streets beginning this summer.
