MIPS and SPI team up against AMD in stream processor market
MIPS Technology recently announced it would cooperate with Stream Processor Incorporated (SPI) on the development of using MIPS 4Kec processor cores in stream processor based products, while AMD has recently launched a x86 embedded based stream processor in the market.
The sources from Taiwan-based server makers estimate that high performance computers (HPC), which mainly use stream processors, currently own a 10% share in the worldwide server market with annual revenues reaching US$10 billion or more.
