The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) has banned an ad advertising computer game, Stranglehold.
Needless to say this isn’t the first time violent games have caused a bit of ruckus with the powers that be. In the later months of 2007 ManHunt 2 was banned by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification). While it was granted an adult rating in the U.S. it was rejected twice by the BBFC. The BBFC was a little less than impressed with ManHunt 2’s "casually sadistic" and "constantly encouraged visceral killing".
The authority claimed the advertisement condoned violence. The ad features four strapping lads having a bit of a row with guns.
The authority felt the ad was too realistic and because it could not be addressed with a time restriction they felt their only was to ban the ad completely.
They also felt the voice over “Honour is his code. Vengeance is his mission. Violence is his only option.” Was a bit much, implying that violence is honourable.
