All of the included software is on a CD, as well as pre-installed software on the drive itself. The WD software is for the capacity gauge.

Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics

This shows the SMART status and serial number of the drive. A drive check is also integrated. This application can also write zeros to the entire disk to ensure that your erased data can never be retrieved.
