Stamp-sized 128 MB Flash Card

In a perfect world, you should be able to swap a single memory card between all of your portable digital devices. Right now, it just isn't so. However, if there were a single card you could stick in your camera, MP3 player, PDA, and cell phone, you would expect it to be small and have a high capacity. Earlier this week, SanDisk introduced a 128 MB Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card, in a format that is currently being pushed by the www.sdcard.org Secure Digital Association. It's a removable, stamp-sized flash memory card capable of storing up to four hours of music or 40 minutes of video. SanDisk's announcement, made at the PC EXPO show, doubles the capacity of SanDisk's current SD cards. More than 50 new consumer electronic products with slots for SD Cards have been introduced by companies that include Canon, Casio, JVC, LG Electronics, Palm, Panasonic, Sharp and Toshiba. SanDisk is currently shipping 8, 16, 32 and 64MB SD Cards and expects to start shipping the new 128MB cards in Q3 of this year. The suggested retail price of the card will be $200, so don't lose it. It measures only 32 mm x 24mm x 2.1mm.
