OCZ Announces Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

OCZ packs its new SSDs with SandForce controllers. They're fast.

As fast as SSDs already are, they are getting even faster. Today OCZ unveiled the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SATA II 2.5-inch series that are faster than their predecessors.

"OCZ's original Vertex Series of solid state drives have become a top seller due to the product's exceptional performance and reliability," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group. "The new Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSD lines continue that tradition by incorporating the latest controller and firmware technology."

The Vertex 2 and Agility 2 incorporate a new controller design from SandForce – one of the best solutions in the market right now. As the higher-end option, the Vertex 2 excels in 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS and features transfer rates up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write. For the value-conscious enthusiast, Agility 2 provides similar performance at a lower price point and delivers identical read/write rates and 4KB random writes up to 10,000 IOPS.

Built with SATA 3Gb/s, both drives feature TRIM support for Windows 7 systems and will be available in 50GB, 100GB, 200GB capacities when they shipping in the next few weeks. The 400GB will become available at a later date.

OK, if the SandForce controller is knocking out those speeds and it's STILL on SATA-II I dread/love to think what they/OCZ can knock out when they move to SATA-III

Which begs the question is the Crucial C300 making use of its 6Gb/s connection?
